Privacy policy

OTW (“On The Way”) is an Australian website that helps drivers find the cheapest place to refuel along a route. It is operated from Australia. You can reach us at privacy@ontheway-fuel.com.au.

• No accounts, usernames or passwords.
• No names, email addresses or phone numbers.
• No payment details. The website is free.
• We do not sell, rent or trade any information about you to anyone.

When you save a car, OTW stores it in your browser's local storage — the vehicle you picked, its fuel figures, and where you last set the fuel gauge. That information never reaches our servers. It stays on the device you used, and you can remove it at any time with the “Forget” button on the My Car page, or by clearing your browsing data.

To make the app work, some information is sent to third parties:

• Mapbox — the addresses you type and the start and end of your route are sent to Mapbox to display the map, suggest addresses and calculate the driving route. If you choose “use my current location”, your approximate coordinates are sent too. See the Mapbox privacy policy.
• Supabase — hosts the fuel price and vehicle database we query. Your route is used to look up nearby stations. Queries are not linked to any identity, because we don't have one for you.
• Google Analytics 4 — tells us how many people use the site and which parts they use. We record anonymous events when a car is saved, a route is searched, or a station is opened, along with details like trip distance and fuel type. IP addresses are anonymised and Google's advertising signals are switched off.
• Google AdSense — shows the advertising that keeps OTW free. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads. You can control this at Google My Ad Center.
• Netlify — hosts the website and keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability.

OTW never accesses your location unless you choose “use my current location”. Your browser will ask permission first, and you can refuse — typing an address works just as well. When you do use it, the coordinates are used once, to work out where your trip starts. We don't store them or track your movement.

OTW itself sets no cookies. Google Analytics and Google AdSense set their own, as described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the fuel search will still work, though we'll lose sight of how the site is being used.

OTW is intended for licensed drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them — and since we collect no personal information at all, there is nothing for us to hold.

Australian privacy law gives you the right to access and correct personal information an organisation holds about you. In OTW's case there is nothing to access, because we hold no personal information and have no way to identify you. If you believe otherwise, or want to make a complaint, email privacy@ontheway-fuel.com.au and we'll respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site.
