Privacy policy

OTW (“On The Way”) is an Australian website that helps drivers find the cheapest place to refuel along a route. It is operated from Australia. You can reach us at lmagee243@hotmail.com.

• No accounts, usernames or passwords.
• No name, email address or phone number is required to use the planner. If you email us, we receive the details you choose to send.
• No payment details. The website is free.
• We do not sell, rent or trade any information about you to anyone.

When you save a car, OTW stores it in your browser's local storage — the vehicle you picked, its fuel figures, and where you last set the fuel gauge. The saved record stays on that device; values from it may be used in calculation requests and analytics as described below. You can remove it at any time with the “Forget” button on the My Car page, or by clearing your browsing data.

To make the app work, some information is sent to third parties:

• Mapbox — the addresses you type and the start and end of your route are sent to Mapbox to display the map, suggest addresses and calculate the driving route. A postcode or suburb entered in the nearby-price search is also sent to Mapbox to find its centre. If you choose “use my current location”, your approximate coordinates are sent too. See the Mapbox privacy policy.
• Supabase — hosts the fuel-price and vehicle database. The planner sends route points, fuel type, tank size, fuel level and consumption values to calculate range and look up stations. A nearby-price search sends the selected place's coordinates and fuel type to look up prices. OTW does not require an account for these requests.
• Google Analytics 4 — tells us how many people use the site and which parts they use. We record events when a car is saved, a route is searched, or a station is opened. Event details include vehicle make, model and year; trip distance, range and fuel type; and selected station data. Google may process browser and device information and set analytics cookies. OTW disables Google advertising signals in its GA4 configuration.
• Google AdSense — may display advertising when enabled. Google and its partners may use cookies and device information to serve and measure ads. You can control this at Google My Ad Center.
• Netlify — hosts the website and keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability.

OTW never accesses your location unless you choose “use my current location”. Your browser will ask permission first, and you can refuse — typing an address works just as well. When you do use it, the coordinates are used once, to work out where your trip starts. We don't store them or track your movement.

OTW does not use its own account or session cookies. Google Analytics may set first-party analytics cookies, and AdSense may set advertising cookies when ads are enabled. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the fuel search will still work, though we'll lose sight of how the site is being used.

OTW is intended for licensed drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly invite children to provide personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has sent us information.

You may ask about information connected with a message you sent us, or make a privacy complaint, by emailing lmagee243@hotmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site.
